France sez: @eBay $61 Million plz

French fashion company, LVMH [home of Kanye's Louis Vuitton] is sued our favorite marketplace, eBay, for $61 Million for the selling of fake merchandise. Of course, eBay ended up having to pay. eBay countered that "LVMH is trying to crack down on Internet auctions merely because it is uncomfortable with the business model, which tends to cut out the middleman."

Despite eBay's wanting to continue with the path it's started, they're going to instate measures to weed out counterfeit goods being sold.

Although this is probably a good thing, it's going to be a pain in the neck for the sellers. eBay can't be everywhere in the world at once, so really them trying to get rid of fraudulent will be a very difficult thing to achieve.

Possibly what eBay could do is allow buyers who suspect the product they bought fake items to report the seller. Then eBay would review what the buyer is selling, maybe contact them even.

We'll see what eBay does.
