iPhone 3G and Family Plans

Here's a thought that Gizmodo, Engadget, and TUAW have yet to cover: upgrading to the iPhone 3G on a family plan.

Personally I'm on a family plan, but really, it's not in my name. Personally, I KNOW my mother won't want to camp out in front of an Apple store for a couple days just to authorize the addition to the account.

Enter dialing 611. iGerard and I both called up the AT&T hotline. Both of us got a different answer.

The answer I got was: That since my mother will not be present, I will need to have her call up 611 again and have her make me an authorized user on the account. Once that's been done, I'll follow up on this after she's called.

iGerard's answer: When activating the iPhone 3G in store, he will just need a photo ID and the account holder's last 4 digits of their social security.

Both answers we got seem logical. In the event of not being able to just give them the SS number, I'm going to go ahead and get authorized. I'm going to go ahead and follow up on this in a later post.
